Frequently asked questions

If you’re thinking about booking a family photoshoot in Melbourne (or maybe you’ve already booked - yay!), you probably have a few questions about how it all works. Every family and every home looks different, so I’m here to make the whole process feel simple, relaxed and fully centred around you.

Below are some of the most common questions I get from families. From timing your session to what happens if the toddler decides today is a “no photos!” day. Have a read, and if there’s anything else on your mind, just ask. I’m here to help you feel confident and excited about documenting this special chapter.

When should I have a maternity session?

The sweet spot for maternity photos is typically between 28–34 weeks. Around this time your bump has a beautiful, round shape - and you’re hopefully still feeling comfortable enough to enjoy the experience. That said, every pregnancy is different, so we can absolutely adjust to what feels right for you.

When should I book a newborn session?

It’s best to secure your session before baby arrives - ideally during your second or early third trimester.
We’ll pencil in your date and then if things need to change for whatever reason (extra healing time for mum or your not confident with bubs yet) then we can always move your date.

My children won’t sit still.

Good. I don’t want them to. The BEST and I really mean this, then best photos come fro movement. I don’t want your kids to be sitting still and smiling at the camera. I want them to move, pull a face, jump on you, run around, be on the floor. Bring all the movement, and leave the camera settings to me!

How long do the sessions go for?

Most sessions run around 90-120 minutes, long enough to settle in, but relaxed so nothing feels rushed. Newborn sessions can take a little longer so we can follow baby’s lead with feeding, nappy changes, and cuddles as needed. Pretty much, once your child says they’re done, then I stop.

Do I have to have my photos in my home?

Not at all!
While I love photographing families in the comfort and meaning of their own space, outdoor sessions are always an option.
We can explore a beach, park, or another favourite spot - whatever feels most like your family.

What if my home doesn’t have enough light?

Most homes have at least one beautiful pocket of light - even if it’s just a single window - and that’s often all we need. I’m very used to working in a variety of spaces and I’ll guide you to where the light works best.
Natural, soft, and real - that’s my favourite kind of light anyway.

How many photos do I get in a gallery?

Your gallery will include 60+ images to choose from, but in all honesty I usually deliver around 100. I just cant help myself when taking photos.
You only purchase the images you love, my collections range from 8 to 15 to all images.

What happens if you turn up and it’s just not working?

Little people (and even grown-ups!) have off days - and that’s okay. We’ll play, take breaks, and keep the atmosphere relaxed.
If things still aren’t flowing and it’s clearly just not our day, we can pause and reschedule. No pressure, no stress.

What should we wear?

Keep it comfy and neutral - soft, earthy tones photograph beautifully and won’t distract from the story: you.
I’m always happy to help with outfit choices and send inspiration in the lead-up to your session. I do send out a pre shoot guide before your session which will help you to prepare your clothes and also your house.

Are animals included?

Absolutely! This chapter is about your whole family, not just the human members. Your other little loves are a huge part of the story and very welcome to join in.

Dogs and cats bring all the love to a session

As a family and newborn photographer, I’ve spent years stepping into homes just like yours - with toys on the floor, laundry waiting to be folded, and big emotions that come with little humans. That’s the real life I love to capture.

Your photographs won’t rely on a perfect space or perfectly behaved children - they’ll come from connection, comfort, and the quiet magic of your everyday moments.

If you’re ready to chat dates or have more questions before booking, I’d love to hear from you.
